Miss Buxley is a major character in the American comic strip Beetle Bailey, created by Mort Walker. She is the blonde, buxom civilian secretary to Brigadier General Amos T. Halftrack at Camp Swampy.
Role and Relationships: She serves as Halftrack’s secretary and occasional date, often acting as a distraction for the General. She has a romantic interest in Beetle Bailey (later becoming his girlfriend) and is constantly pursued by Killer.
Appearance: She is depicted with light skin, blue eyes, and blond hair, typically wearing black heels and a black or red sleeveless dress. Her design was inspired by Marilyn Monroe.
Origin: She officially debuted in the strip on November 17, 1971, though she made a cameo in 1964. She is from Amarillo, Texas.
Controversy and Evolution: Initially portrayed as a "ditzy" figure for Halftrack to ogle, she faced criticism for sexism in the 1970s and 80s. In 1984, Walker altered her character to be a competent professional and changed her wardrobe to less form-fitting dresses to address reader complaints.
